First I want to say that I am sorry that I don't write more often, but school has been hitting me kind of hard this term. I promise that I will update after finals week is over... *muah*
In any case, I was cramming for my physics and solved a problem which kind of freaked me out, so I thought that I would share:
Early in the morning on June 14, 2002 an asteroid with a diameter of 2.0 kilometers (about the size of a small city) passed the earth at 1/3 the distance from the earth to the moon (it was about 73,600 miles away-not far in astronomical terms). Nobody detected this asteroid until three days after it had passed. The problem asked us to find out with what force and at what speed it would have hit the earth.
It would have hit with the force of about 156,279 1-megaton nuclear bombs.
No one saw it coming.
Kind of scary isn't it?
